1st Induction Meeting of Saudi Society of Microscopes Held at KAU

February 9, 2010
Prof Adnan H. Zahid, KAU Vice President for Postgraduate Studies and Scientific Research, has patronized on Tuesday 2nd February 2010, corresponding to 18th Safar 1431 the 1st Induction Meeting of the Saudi Society of Microscopes held at the KAU main Ceremonial Hall and Conference Center.

According to Dr Samar Al-Saggaf, the Saudi Society of Microscopes is a scientific society based at the Faculty of Sciences. It focuses on sciences involving the use of microscopes, such as medicine, biological sciences, chemistry, physics, geosciences, marine sciences and materials science. It also encourages scientific research and publishing in general, holds scientific events and publishes a scientific periodical to cover the different branches of microscopy with the aim of sharing expertise and information.

The society, according to Prof Zahid, is aimed at encouraging, developing and stimulating microscopic research, establishing lines of scientific and professional communication between the society's members, providing scientific advice on microscope-related issues, facilitating the exchange of scientific production and innovations and establishing cooperation with other relevant local and international institutions.

Prof Zahid also thanked HE Prof Osama S. Tayyeb, KAU President, for his relentless support to the society.

In a lecture entitled "Touring the World of Microscopic Technology", Prof Ayoub Al-Bazzazi drew a comparison between the history and latest technology of microscopes.

Dr Abdul-Monim Al-Hayani delivered a lecture to deal with the scientific publishing opportunities and barriers locally and internationally.

He also shed light on the variables influencing the choice of a journal for scientific contributions submission.

Prof Zahid praised the participants, the sponsoring companies and Dr Samar Al-Saggaf for their invaluable contributions.

He also awarded a substantial prize to Eng Ahmed F. Sunbul, designer of the society's winning logo.
