emc2012 - The 15th European Microscopy Congress - 16th - 21st September 2012 - Manchester Central, United Kingdom
 Date: 16th - 21st September 2012
Location: Manchester Central, United Kingdom
Organised by the Royal Microscopical Society under the auspices of the European Microscopy Society
About emc2012
The European Microscopy Congress is held every four years, and it was last hosted by the RMS in 1988 in York. The European Microscopy Congress in September 2012 (emc2012) will incorporate MICROSCIENCE 2012.
The European Microscopy Society (EMS) is an umbrella society for European microscopy societies. The RMS is the largest individual society of the EMS.
Whether you are a delegate, an exhibitor, a day visitor, or a companion, we want you to get the most out of emc2012.
Conference
The European Microscopy Congress, emc2012, will be one of the largest microscopy and scientific imaging conferences in the world. The conference runs every four years and attracts well over 1,000 delegates. In 2012, a further 1,000 exhibition day visitors are expected.
Plenary lectures will take place each morning followed by six parallel sessions.
High-quality science will be the driver, and the aims of the scientific organisers are to strike a balance between light and electron microscopy, and life and physical sciences, including for example Multi-photon Fluorescence Microscopy, Confocal Microscopy, X-ray Synchrotron, Flow Cytometry, Scanning Probe Microscopy, Scanning and Transmission Electron Microscopy, and Focused Ion Beam.
The Chair of the Congress is Dr Debbie Stokes, with Professor Tony Wilson, Dr Peter O’Toole, Professor Mark Rainforth and Dr John Hutchison as Vice Chairs. The full Scientific Programme Committee is currently being appointed.
Other societies, such as the Institute of Pharmacology, SEB, BSCB, BSDB, SGM and EMAG are being invited to organise sessions at the event.
The first Call for Papers will be in October 2011.
Exhibition
The exhibition will run from midday on Monday 17th September until midday on Friday 21st September.
It will be located within a 6,000m2 hall that is adjacent to the purpose-built conference theatres, brining delegates and exhibitors closer than ever.
The exhibition hall will include four technical workshop theatres, a prominent poster village, the enhanced RMS Learning Zone - a fully-equipped teaching and learning area - and refreshment and catering facilities.
There will be more opportunities to bring delegates in touch with exhibitors, with a full social programme and many networking opportunities.
The event will attract a higher proportion of non-UK visitors – particularly from Europe – than a conventional MICROSCIENCE conference and exhibition.
